IHSAA airing postseason pairings shows for softball, baseball Sunday

The Indiana High School Athletic Association will air postseason state tournament pairings shows for softball and baseball Sunday.

The 39th Annual Girls Softball State Tournament Pairings Show, hosted by Greg Rakestraw, is Sunday at 7 p.m. The show will air exclusively on IHSAAtv.org.

Complete postseason pairings will be available at IHSAA.org following the broadcast.

Softball sectionals will run from May 20-25 next month.

The 57th Annual IHSAA Boys Baseball State Tournament Pairings Show, also hosted by Greg Rakestraw, will air Sunday at 8 p.m. at IHSAAtv.org with complete pairings to be posted at IHSAA.org following the broadcast.

Baseball sectionals are scheduled from May 22-27.

SOFTBALL

Shelbyville Golden Bears

Shelbyville, a two-time defending sectional champion, is already 2-0 against potential sectional opponents and travels to another potential sectional opponent, East Central (5-3), Saturday.

The Golden Bears are 9-4 this season, including a win at Columbus East (7-9) Friday. The Olympians’ new softball complex will serve as the host site for this year’s Sectional 14 tournament.

Also in the field are Columbus North (5-3), Franklin (7-6) and Whiteland (6-6).

The Sectional 14 champion will host a one-game regional on May 28 against the Sectional 13 champion.

Triton Central Tigers

Triton Central won the program’s second sectional title in 2023 and added its first regional championship as well with no seniors in the lineup.

Triton Central, currently 4-4, and Heritage Christian (7-2), the host school for Class 2A, Sectional 42, met in the 2023 sectional championship game where the Tigers prevailed 3-0.

Also in the sectional field are Christel House (3-2), Indianapolis Scecina (2-7), Irvington Prep (2-2) and Park Tudor (2-0).

The Heritage Christian sectional champion will host the Sectional 41 champion in a one-game regional on May 28.

Morristown Yellow Jackets

The Class A, Sectional 59 field will compete at Indianapolis Lutheran. The host Saints, currently 8-4 and ranked No. 8 in the state coaches poll, have won back-to-back sectional titles.

Morristown (3-4) is still chasing the program’s first sectional championship.

Also in the field are Edinburgh (0-9), Eminence (7-0), Greenwood Christian (1-4) and Providence Cristo Rey (0-1).

Waldron Mohawks

North Decatur is the host school for Class A, Sectional 50.

The Chargers (4-4) are the only program in the five-team field to win a sectional title in the last decade. Jac-Cen-Del (4-6) is the only other program to have captured a sectional title.

Waldron (2-2), Oldenburg Academy (0-8) and South Decatur (2-4) are still seeking a first sectional championship.

The Sectional 60 winner will host the Sectional 59 winner in a one-game regional championship on May 28.

 

 

BASEBALL

Shelbyville

Arthur Barnett Field at Shelbyville High School is the site for Class 4A, Sectional 14.

The host Golden Bears (5-6) have not won a sectional title since 2005 but have high hopes with a pair of strong pitchers – Aiden Smith and Gavyn Fisher – at the top of the rotation.

Class 4A, No. 7 Columbus North (8-1) is the defending sectional champion. Also in the field are Columbus East (4-11), East Central (7-6), Franklin (6-4) and Whiteland (7-3).

Triton Central

A pair of top-10 ranked teams are in the Class 2A, Sectional 42 field hosted by Park Tudor.

Triton Central (11-1) is ranked No. 5 in this week’s state coaches poll. Park Tudor (8-0) is sitting at No. 7.

Heritage Christian (8-7) is the defending sectional champion and in the field with Indianapolis Scecina (2-12) and Irvington Prep (7-2).

Triton Central’s last sectional title came in 2012.

Morristown

Morristown is the Class A, Sectional 59 host once again.

The five-team field features the Yellow Jackets (4-7), Edinburgh (5-5-1), Greenwood Christian (6-4), Indianapolis Lutheran (2-8) and Metropolitan (0-1).

Greenwood Christian is the defending sectional champion.

Morristown is chasing its first sectional championship since 2008.

Southwestern and Waldron

Both the Spartans and Mohawks will travel to Jac-Cen-Del for the Sectional 60 tournament.

Southwestern’s last sectional title came in 2021. The Spartans are off to a 1-5 start this season.

Waldron’s only sectional championship was secured in 2001. The Mohawks are 6-4.

Also in the field are Jac-Cen-Del (5-4), North Decatur (6-4), Oldenburg Academy (4-4) and South Decatur (5-3).

Class A, No. 7 North Decatur has won back-to-back sectional titles.

Regionals

Regional championship games for the southern half of the state will be played on June 1 at one of eight sites.

The host sites are Park Tudor, Mooresville, Morristown, Loogootee, Jasper, Floyd Central, Mitchell and Southridge.
