Shelbyville baseball’s and softball’s Stand Up to Cancer event raised more than a $1,000 that will be donated to the Cancer Association of Shelby County – and produced a pair of wins on the diamonds.
Shelbyville senior pitcher Cheyenne Eads collected career strikeout No. 500 in the Golden Bears’ 11-1 victory. Eads pitched the first three innings Tuesday and struck out all nine Connersville batters she faced.
A five-run second inning put Shelbyville (6-4) in control. Addison Stieneker pitched the final two innings to close out the Golden Bears’ fourth-straight win.
At Barnett Field, Shelbyville baseball fell behind 2-0 before Luke Jackson belted a grand slam in the fourth inning which proved to be enough run support for Aiden Smith and Luke Brinkman.
Smith pitched six innings, allowed two hits and four walks while striking out eight in a 5-3 Hoosier Heritage Conference victory over Pendleton Heights.
Brinkman pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the save and improve the Golden Bears to 5-3 (3-2 HHC).
The Arabians dropped to 7-3 (3-2) and host the Golden Bears today in game two of the conference series.
On the softball diamond, Destiny Johnson delivered a run-scoring sacrifice bunt in the first that scored Eads (photo), who had a one-out single earlier in the inning.
In the second, Gracie Crafton walked and moved to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Hailey Maulden’s sacrifice bunt scored the freshman while the sophomore reached on a throwing error.
Addysyn Wettrick followed with a walk. Eads’ second hit of the game scored Maulden. Stieneker drove in two more runs with a double and a Johnson single extended the lead to 6-1.
Maulden finished the game with two hits and four RBI.
Shelbyville is at Franklin (4-4) Thursday.

Baseball
North Decatur 14, Morristown 8
Morristown scored five runs in the top of the first inning but allowed three runs in the bottom half of the inning and seven more in the second and never recovered.
Nolan Burkhart, Kamdenn McKinney, Eli Trenkamp, Xander Jones and Pax Hess each drove in two runs to get the Chargers (4-3, 3-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference) the conference sweep of the Yellow Jackets (1-4, 0-3 MHC).
Triton Central 14, Speedway 3
A five-run sixth inning helped Class 2A, No. 6 Triton Central close out another Indiana Crossroads Conference win.
Kellen Dishman had four hits, three doubles, and drove in three runs to push the Tigers’ record to 7-0 (5-0 ICC).
Hayden May also had four hits and drove in two runs. May also collected the win on the mound, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out 11.
Janssen Capps pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit or a run.
Jac-Cen-Del 13, Waldron 3
The Eagles used a pair of six-run innings to defeat the Mohawks.
Keagan Williamson had three RBI while Lance Snyder and Clark Dwenger combined to drive in four more runs to push Jac-Cen-Del’s record to 4-3.
Jacob Lindsey had two hits for Waldron (4-2).
Boys golf
Triton Central 183, Eastern Hancock 186
At Hawk’s Tail Golf Course, Chase Chandler earned the medalist honor with a round of 39 to lead the Tigers to victory.
Also playing for Triton Central were Taggy Goul (45), Derreck Uhls (49), Max Ray (50) and Garrett Eberhardt (55).
Colton Ayres topped the Royals with a 49.
Softball
Triton Central 10, Indianapolis Scecina 8
Scecina tied the game in the fourth inning with a 6-run outburst but the Tigers responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to collect the conference victory.
Madi Peterson had two hits and drove in three runs and earned the win in the circle, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing seven hits and seven runs – only two earned.
Brylie Couch allowed one run over the final 3.1 innings to get the save.
Couch and Jaylynn Keith each had three hits and drove in a combined four runs to even Triton Central’s record at 2-2 (1-0 ICC).
Waldron 22, Crothersville 7
A balanced offensive effort has Waldron off to a 2-0 start this season.
Audrey Hogg and Brooklyn Hudnall each had three hits.
Destiny Hirschauer had two hits and drove in three while Maddie Hungerford led the Mohawks with four RBI.
Girls tennis
Eastern Hancock 3, Triton Central 2
Triton Central collected match victories at No.1 singles and No. 1 doubles but could not find a third win to defeat the Royals.
At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling was victorious 6-2, 6-1.
Lauren Grant and Audrey Canter bested Eastern Hancock’s No. 1 doubles pairing, 6-2, 6-4.
The Tigers dropped to 2-3.
Seymour 4, Shelbyville 1
Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles team of Sydney Baker and Sophia Asher defeated Addison Hunsley and Tori Fee, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Seymour won three-set matches at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to drop the Golden Bears to 2-3 this season.
Boys track
Shelbyville 110, Rushville 75, Southwestern 37, Waldron 19
Christian Powell and Ben Price each won two events and the Golden Bears swept the three relay races to win the four-team invitational at Rushville.
Powell took first place in the 100 (11.3 seconds) and 200 (23.1) while Price won the 400 (55.3) and long jump (17 feet, 11.5 inches).
Shelbyville also got first-place points from Shia Veach (4:59.3 in the 1,600), Ethan Lambert (162-0 in discus) and Jaylen Eads (pole vault).
Powell teamed with Leland Fox, Joaquin Delgado and Logan Page to cross the finish line first in 46.0.
Price and Powell joined John Turner and Kamden Turner to win the 1,600 relay (3:48.9).
Veach scored a second victory in the 3,200 relay (9:30.6) with Logan Addis, Gavin Harker and Elias Slaven.
Waldron had two event winners. Will Larrison won the 3,200 in 10:44 while Braylon Williams took first place in the shot put (45-6).
Cecil Newton provided Southwestern with an event win in the high jump (5-8).
Runner-up finishers were Southwestern’s Dakota Claiborne (800), Josh Wenger (discus) and Avery Dennison (high jump), and Shelbyville’s Veach (3,200) and Connor Duncan (shot put).
Girls track
Rushville 111.5, Shelbyville 78.5, Southwestern 29, Waldron 12
Shelbyville freshman Sonora O’Connor proved to be the fastest at the track, winning the 100 (13.6), 200 (27.9) and 400 (1:03.6).
Shelbyville also got two event wins from Aerin Garcia-Santiago in the 800 (2:47.1) and 1,600 (6:27.3).
Southwestern’s Riley Engel won the high jump (4-8).
Runner-up finishers were Shelbyville’s Ava Wilson (100 and 200), Ellie Simpson (1,600), Hannah Wright (3,200) and Alyna Castanon (long jump), and Waldron’s Brooklyn Milbourn (discus).
Boys volleyball
Columbus East def. Shelbyville, 25-13, 30-28, 21-25, 25-23
Jayion Grice led the Golden Bears with 17 kills. Corbin Deck had 12 kills and two service aces and Diego Hernandez finished with 35 assists.
Shelbyville dropped to 5-8 this season. Columbus East improved to 3-3.
