SIDNEY, OH- The Lehman Catholic High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the school’s eleventh annual Lehman Hall of Fame Induction.  This year’s inductees include a former educator, a lawyer, two Lehman staff members, and a Piqua Catholic High School graduate.

The five distinguished individuals –John E. Ferman, John M. Garmhausen, Mike and Joyce Hughes, and Kenneth H. Schlater – will be honored at Lehman Hall of Fame festivities on Saturday, Saturday August 5, 2017.

Since beginning this tradition, the Hall of Fame committee has sought to honor not only alumni but outstanding faculty and supporters of Lehman Catholic.  The Hall of Fame evening will begin with Mass at 5:15 p.m. in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel on campus.  Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Virgil Heitmeyer Gymnasium.  For tickets to the Hall of Fame Dinner, please contact Shelley Vanskiver at 937.726.2510 or bsvanskiver@gmail.com.

Our fifth and final inductee this year is Kenneth Schlater. Schlater graduated from Holy Angels High School in Sidney, Ohio in 1966 and Saint Joseph’s College with degrees in Business and Education in 1970. He taught at Lehman Catholic High School as a business teacher from 1970-1973 and served as project manager at Sidney Electric Company from 1973-1983. In 1983, he co-founded Area Energy & Electric, Inc. As the founder and CEO of Area Energy & Electric, Schlater employed more than 325 workers, and his business continues to serve the Sidney community and many others to this day.

Schlater’s community contributions include: Holy Angels Finance Committee, Wilson Memorial Board of Trustees, Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, S&H Products Board of Directors, Shelby Hills School Levy Campaign, YMCA Board of Directors, Shelby County United Way Board of Directors, Sidney Noon Kiwanis Board of Directors, Sidney Community Foundation Board of Directors, and as a member of the Western Ohio Development Council. His many years of service to these boards and committees included leadership roles. Most recently, Schlater helped with the formation of the Workforce Partnership Program. This program has gained recognition at the state level for its innovation.

Additionally, Schlater’s contributions to the Catholic community include serving on the Lehman Catholic High School Foundation Board for over a decade. His time investment included terms as Vice-President and President. He served as a volunteer in capital campaigns and other fundraising ventures, often challenging others to give their time, talent, or treasure for advancements needed at both schools. He is currently serving on the Holy Angels Parish Finance Committee and the Lehman Foundation Board. Schlater served as a president for both the Wilson Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was also the Chairman of the Shelby Hills School Levy in 1991.

Ken and his wife Brenda, (Weigandt HAHS 1966), have been married 45 years and have four adult children: Angela, Sara, Emily and Luke. They have also been blessed with 11 grandchildren.
